grass snake

Grass snake(pullanji moorkhan)

I captured this shot from kollam sangili dark jungle at kerala on 15,12,2010 at 1:50 pm

details:-Grass snakes are non-venomous and are extremely timid, moving off quickly when disturbed. If cornered they can feign death, and if handled frequently, produce a foul-smelling excretion.
Grass snakes are usually 2½ – 3 feet long, although longer ones have been recorded. They are usually olive brown in color, with gray or green along the back with two rows of small black spots arranged alternately. Black vertical bars run along the flanks. The most obvious feature by which the snake can be recognized is the yellowish patch either side of the neck forming an incomplete collar or ring.
